PHOENIX, AZ – The USO West Region is proud to announce that Nancy Keane will lead the legendary military service organization in the state of Arizona as the new executive director. Keane took the reins of USO Arizona on January 31. For the past 10 years, Keane has been the Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for Albertsons Safeway’s Southwest Division, spanning Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Keane replaces Carla Garcia, who was recently promoted.
“I cannot think of a better leader for USO Arizona than Nancy Keane,” said Bob Kurkjian, President of USO’s West Region. “Our troops and their families face a multitude of challenges that are nearly unimaginable to most of us, and Nancy is the right choice at the right time to continue building on the outstanding track record of impactful programs and services delivered by the USO in Arizona.”
In her most recent role, Keane managed a broad range of communications, public relations, and public affairs strategic campaigns and social media, including program development and execution as well as managing Albertsons Safeway’s philanthropic engagement. Previously she spent almost a decade as Director of Marketing and Communications for the American Heart and Stroke Association.
“It is truly an honor to serve the USO and support its commitment to strengthen America’s military service members and help keep them connected to family, home and country, while they serve our nation,” Keane said. “I am so inspired by what the USO Arizona staff and volunteers are able to accomplish ¬— I’m really looking forward to furthering the USO mission across the state.”
A graduate of Arizona State University and former associate faculty at ASU’s Cronkite School of Journalism, Keane started her professional life as a broadcast journalist for KNXV, the Phoenix ABC affiliate, before transitioning to public relations and marketing roles. She had the experience of a lifetime when she flew second-seat with the USAF Thunderbirds.
The USO works to provide morale-boosting and family-strengthening programs to Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen and their families around the world, including in Arizona. With over 50,000 military members calling Arizona home, plus those traveling through the state, there is a constant need for USO support.
